Unpacking the N-Word

The N-Word Intervention Project

The N-Word Intervention Project is a one-of-a-kind comprehensive bundle of services and products including curriculum, training, resources, tools, workshops, and presentations to help adults and youth address issues, topics, and situations involving use of the N-Word among youth and in schools.

It was created with feedback from Pre-K – 12th grade administrators, teachers, staff, parents and caregivers, and students, and utilizes Illinois Learning Standards, Social Justice Learning Standards, and Social–Emotional Standards to ensure learning is intellectually and developmentally appropriate.

The N-Word Intervention Project offers Pre-K – 12 schools and school districts a structured program to educate and engage its school community on how to productively respond when the N-Word is used in a school setting.

It is designed to help adults and youth confront and navigate the pain, outrage, defensiveness, defiance, fear, and refusal to engage, associated with usage of the N-Word.
